Splinter Group began in 1985 with a few building contractors getting together to talk shop. A year later, twenty or so contractors began having regularly scheduled dinner meetings. After the 1991 Oakland Hills Fire, total membership peaked at 450 with increased re-building activity and many contractors coming from other areas.
The membership is currently around 125. Our regularly scheduled meetings and seminars have covered topics such as Green Building, Cost Planning, Quality Control and Growth, Water Infiltration, Workers' Compensation Insurance, Hydronic Heating, New Products and Innovative Ideas, Architect-Builder Relations, Windows and Doors, Understanding Engineering, A $10 Million House, Photovoltaics, Managing Painters, etc. |
